Adhering to God’s Holy Word
Full Submission to God’s Will
Members of the church of Christ obey to the word of God (The Bible). Both the Old Testament and New Testament hold importance to the members of the church of Jesus Christ.
We diligently study God’s word to ensure that we have a thorough knowledge of God’s will, and apply God precepts to our daily lives. All doctrines are derived from God’s holy word.
Our aim is never to “modernize” the word of God. The word will never change. It is fixed. Delivered by the Holy Spirit through those chosen by God and His glorious Son. We follow the same doctrine as the disciples of Jesus Christ in the Book of Acts (and whole New Testament).
Disciples of Jesus Christ are to be:
- Holy. Living a life free from the sins of the flesh. Read Galatians 5
- Workers. Doing works of righteousness. Being devoted to one another in love. Read Romans 12
- Unified. Unity with everyone that follows God’s word. Devoted to advancing the Kingdom of God. John 13:34-35
Let no one deceive you, everyone that truly follows Jesus Christ will be devoted to holiness, Bible reading, prayer, serving other disciples, and sharing the Gospel.
What We Believe
One Body. One Lord. One Hope.
“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” Ephesians 4:1-6
- One Body. There is only one body in God’s eyes. The church of Jesus Christ. The Church that God established through Jesus Christ. Matthew 16:16-19
- One Spirit. God provides His Spirit to individuals that accept Jesus Christ according to His plan. These individuals live by the power of the Spirit and obey His holy word. Acts 2:36-39; Galatians 5:16-26
- One Hope. There is only one hope. Joining God’s church and remaining faithful is the only hope in this world. John 14:6
- One Lord. There is One Lord given for us to follow. John 10:7-16
- One Faith. The church of Christ consists of individual congregations from around the world. Congregations that adhere to God’s word and are led by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is our guide and final authority. All church doctrine is derived from the Bible. Ephesians 5:25-27
- One Baptism. Jesus instituted water baptism. This is part of the process of turning to Jesus Christ. Belief, repentance, confession, and baptism saves a soul. God provides the Holy Spirit to those that surrender in this way. Baptism delivers forgiveness of sins. Acts 2:36-39; 1 Peter 3:18-21
Baptism into Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ instructed in this way:
“18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
These are Jesus’ words. Not a denomination, nor a catholic sect, nor a protestant organization; Jesus commanded this. We obey Him in this area.
Faith, repentance, confession, and water baptism area involved with someone passing from death to life. A person’s heart is changed by the powerful work of God (Acts 2:36-39; Colossians 2:12) and God washes away the persons sins (Acts 22:16), and raises them to newness of life.
This is where an individual surrenders to God. They commit to dying to oneself and living according to the teachings of Jesus Christ. They become a part of His Church. They are united with Him (Romans 6:1-11).
God’s Holy Church
There is plenty of talk about church, but much more misunderstanding of the Church and its function.
The Church is the Body of Christ that God had Jesus build. It is definitely not a meeting place, building or cathedral. It is the people of God. God’s people meet in congregations around the world. These congregations make up the Church.
Jesus’ church is naturally diverse. Made up of people from all cultures and backgrounds. Individuals that have given their lives to God and obey the teaching of Jesus Christ.
We have a class handout on this teaching. Let us know if you have interest in learning more about God’s church.
