Trust Him when the Storm Strikes

With all the advancement of technology you think we would be able to better understand the dynamics of storm and hurricane. We are not quite there yet. The encouragement is to trust Him when the storm strikes. God is the one to trust when physical storms hit and when the storms of life attack you as a person. God is able to transition a difficult situation into someone good.

Jesus Christ Showed the Power of God

Settle the Hearts of His Disciples

35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?”

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?” 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, “Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!” – Mark 4:35-41

  • Let us trust Jesus Christ with the storms of life
  • May we pursue life with faith. Faith that trusts, believes, and obeys.
  • God is always watching

The Story of the Adopt a Family Fund

How God Transformed Lives through the Storm

Adopt a Family Fund began their work in 1998.  The Lord God placed it into the hearts of a few disciples to make an impact on the world.  Impact based on His wisdom, strength, and ways.  They diligently obeyed His voice and went to Honduras.  Spent time examining the extreme poverty that we saw.  Made plans to help in any way possible.

Then, this happened: Hurricane Mitch

Hurricane Mitch, hurricane (tropical cyclone) that devastated Central America, particularly Honduras and Nicaragua, in late October 1998. Hurricane Mitch was recognized as the second deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record, after the Great Hurricane of 1780. With millions left homeless and property damage of roughly $6 billion, it was also one of the most destructive. – Britannica

“Mitch began as a tropical storm over the southwestern Caribbean Sea on “October 22, 1998, and strengthened to a hurricane by the 24th. Mitch then rapidly strengthened, becoming a monster Category 5 hurricane with a central pressure of 905 mb on the 26th. To this day, Mitch still ranks as the second-strongest October hurricane on record and remains tied for the eighth-most intense of any Atlantic hurricane on record.” – NOAA

Satellite imagery of Hurricane Mitch on Oct. 26, 1998 via NOAA-14. This is an AVHRR Composite Multi-spectral False Color image.

“Mitch made landfall in Honduras as a much weaker Category 1 hurricane, but it battered the offshore islands with high winds, waves and storm surge. The greatest impact, however, was from the widespread heavy rain and severe flooding in Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala and El Salvador that left thousands dead or missing and caused tremendous property, infrastructure and crop damage in Central America.” – NOAA

God’s People Response to Tragedy

We returned in January 1999 to provide relief. It was very, very hard to see the conditions in person. People were starving, without housing, and suffering from hopelessness. We choose an area to help on a permanent basis.

Our team has been helping in this same area since 1998. Praise God for His wisdom and direction. Much has been accomplished. But there is still a lot to do. Please consider joining us on this quest to eliminate extreme poverty.

It has been 28 years. They are still helping in Honduras.

501C3 Status

Adopt a Family Fund Inc is an approved 501c3 out of Massachusetts. Our approval came in 2003. Since that we have maintained a perfect record with the Internal Revenue Service.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 (Holy Bible)

How Adopt a Family Fund Helps

Service programs are designed to help people escape poverty right where they live. Not a relocation effort, but an effort to help each family to recover from poverty and thrive as a household.

Adopt a Family Fund supports children, teenagers and young adults to attend school.

We provide the following assistance:

  • School Clothes
  • Tuition, Fees
  • Books, Supplies
  • Transportation

Over the past twenty-eight years, hundreds of students have been able to learn how to read, become trades people, and graduate from college.

Some have become engineers, electricians, office administrators, nurses, plumbers, and more. A true poverty alleviation tool.

Monthly Distribution Programs

Monthly distribution of food is a special program that is exclusively for extremely poor households in very low-income areas of Honduras.

Many individuals are elderly. They do not have the ability to generate enough income to survive. Inflation has made it virtually impossible for these households to purchase enough food to live healthy.

Monthly distributions:

  • Cooking supplies.
  • Rice, beans, and pasta.
  • Laundry detergent.
  • Cornmeal, Flour.
  • Sugar, Salts, and spices.
  • Other.

Our team is also available for Bible study, spiritual advice, and to meet medical needs depending on the needs.
